The News Manual
News is any information about the world that makes a reader say, “Gee Whiz!” It can be a story about a new invention, or a news report about an incident that happened in another part of the world. It can also be information about a person who has made a good or bad decision or a news story about someone who has died.
The News Media
People use the news media – newspapers, magazines, radio and television – to find out about what is happening in their community. They also like to hear the entertainment that comes from the music and drama programs on radio, or the cartoons and crossword puzzles in newspapers.
The News Value of the Information
Many things are important in life, but not all of them make the news. Usually, something that is unusual or that has happened for the first time will make the news.
The news is important because it tells us what is happening in the world and how the community is affected by these events. It is also interesting because it can help people learn or improve their lives, or even change the way they do things.
How the News Is Made
The news we get is chosen for us in a very similar way to the way that people decide what they want to talk about. Often the news that we read is dramatic and has clearly identifiable good and bad characters or situations.
